It's been a while since I last posted about my Harry Potter obsession, hasn't it? I was nine when I read the first book, so that's nearly 20 years (shush) of endless adoration for the bespectacled wizard and his adventures. J K Rowling is my absolute hero, there's no contest in all the world. I've read all the books (multiple times), waited until midnight to see the films (and watched them multiple times), our honeymoon will include a visit to the revamped Harry Potter park in Universal Studios, and our spare room is stuffed with my memorabilia. I've even got a wand...
Thankfully, two of my best buds are just as obsessed as I am and don't judge me at all for the times I've insisted on going out of way to King's Cross, just to visit Platform 9 3/4. It was a total no-brainer when it came to deciding Geo's 25th birthday gift - an outing to the Warner Bros Studios in Watford!
I've already been once before, but my old camera decided to pack up and die within minutes of arriving, so my sole remainder of the day consists of a small amount of grainy iPhone photos. This time, I armed myself with my DSLR camera and a selfie stick, determined to document our day as much as possible!
The new Platform 9 3/4 area, housing a full scale Hogwarts Express, was probably one of the best attractions I've seen in the UK for a while! We could climb on the train itself and view compartments filled with memorabilia from all of the films, as well as sit in our very own compartment and view the countryside rolling past us, with a few visits from familiar faces... It was definitely my favourite part of the tour and one I would recommend to anybody with a love for these films.
I could quite happily post all of the photos I took but without wishing to spoil the fun for anyone who is yet to visit, I forced myself to narrow the selection down a little bit. It was the best day out, even though I was struggling with the onset of tonsillitis at the time - a quick slurp of Butterbeer helped get me through the rest of the tour! We were there for around four hours, so you do get your money's worth, and you're not rushed through at all, apart from the beginning when you're encouraged to leave the Great Hall... I suspect Steph, Geo and myself could have quite happily sat ourselves down at one of the long tables and stayed there a while!
