Dani Dunne - UK lifestyle blog
Happy New Year my lovelies!

I wish you all the best and hope you have a fab start to 2011! Thank you so much for reading my little blog in 2010 :D
I spent New Year's Eve celebrating with my family, watching comedy on telly, drinking Passoa and eating a lovely meal!
Sadly I don't have pictures of any real fireworks because I am a rubbish photographer, so you will have to make do with a 'firework' Jon made on a napkin instead...Hope you have fun celebrating the end of 2010, wherever you are! Again, thanks so much for reading this,
much love to you all!
xoxo

And cue nervous photo face.

Brr! The snow here has finally started to melt away but it's still about -1 during the day, going up to -7 at night, freezing! I completely underpacked for the weather here, bringing only two cardigans with me and one has short sleeves. So imagine my joy when I discovered this old favourite whilst rummaging through my sister's wardrobe! She likes to steal anything I leave behind when I've gone to uni and I hadn't seen this lovely cardigan for years so heaven knows when she nicked it...she's not getting it back, that's for sure! It's more than five years old, I remember buying it for a school trip to London when I was 17, but it's still in pretty good nick. I think it came with a belt but clearly that's long gone...

It's so cosy though, that I wasn't even cold when posing for these pictures, despite the chilly temperatures. I have to say, Nat is a far more patient photographer than Jon is! When he takes my picture I'm lucky to get two at a time, but Nat took loads, bless her, and let me check each one to see if I was happy with it!

I love the massive wooden buttons on it too! Here you can also see my gorgeous watch pendant and if you squint, Barry M Raspberry on my thumbnail.

I also insisted Nat take a close up because I'm wearing my Christmas present from her in my hair - these gorgeous lightning hairpins from Crown & Glory! The glitter doesn't show up so much in these photos but they're so pretty and very Potteresque (yes that is a word).

Wearing: Vero Moda cardigan, C&A t-shirt with lace insert, New Look shorts & brogues, trusty M&S tights (layered!)

Make-up: Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation, MeMeMe tint on cheeks, Gosh concealer, NYC powder, Urban Decay liner in Bourbon, L'Oreal Voluminous mascara, Max Factor lip tint.

I've been seeing posts like this all over my dashboard for the past week, so hey, I jumped on the bandwagon! It was surprisingly easy to think of a few stand-out products to talk about and I've tried not to ramble on about products I've already raved about (i.e Superdrug's Vitamin E cleanser - I'm sure by now you've realised I love it so I shan't go on and on about it!)

MeMeMe Pussycat cheek and lip tint - Lots of product? Check. Well-pigmented? Check. Lasts all day? Also check. What more could you ask for from a tint? Since I bought this in September it has become a vital part of my make-up bag, I use a little on my cheeks for a nicely flushed look and dab some on my lips as well (also works beautifully if you layer it on your lips!) The bottle is a little iffy though and prone to leaking, so I give this 9/10.

NYC Smooth Skin powder is another staple in my make-up bag. It's a lovely translucent powder that doesn't make your skin look too matte and dried out but keeps shine at bay for ages, and it's cheap as chips too! My only negative is the way I manage to drop product all over the place as the packaging isn't great, but the powder itself is great, so again this gets 9/10.

This is a recent purchase, I have to say, but I've absolutely fallen in love with the Soap & Glory Face Massage Mini Mitt. I've suffered from problem skin for as long as I can remember, but this has really helped reduce my spots and I've only been using it for a couple of weeks! If, like me, you can only dream of owning the Clarisonic, I strongly recommend buying a little scrubbing mitt like this one because it works really well, and this one in particular was only £4! Great value for money, so 10/10.

Moving on to hair care...my must-have products are both from Aussie (duh) and have really helped my hair become a lot healthier. I spray the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance leave-in conditioner through my matted locks after washing and it really helps get all the tangles out, plus it smells gorgeous; then after I've dried my hair I rub a little bit of the Dual Personality Curl Definition and Soft Feel (phew) serum on my hands and smooth it through my curls, because it helps them look more defined and less crazy-scientist. Love both of these and I wouldn't be without them, so they deserve a fine 10/10 each!

My product of the year, though, is L'Oreal Lash Renewal serum. Seriously one of the few products I own that does exactly what it says on the tin. Slather it on every night (and some mornings) and after four weeks your lashes will look uhhhmazing (my mum thought I was wearing falsies when really it was just my usual mascara!) It's also a lot cheaper than most lash enhancement products on the market. I would definitely recommend this, I've used 1 1/2 tubes so far and I've been using it since June (!) so a tube will last you a while. Santa, bless him, gave me some as a stocking filler! I wholeheartedly give this 10/10.

So, these are my favourites for this year. I have to say, I really look forward to seeing what 2011 will bring! I'd love to hear your opinions, both on these products and products that have been your favourites so far as well!

For my 21st birthday my parents made me a photo book depicting me from birth to about 20 years, 11 months. I had a laugh looking at them the other day and thought I'd share the hilarity, me being the generous person I am *ahem*. Allow me to point out the hairbow and peter pan collar...I was so trendy back then.

I also owned an assortment of stylish hats...

And my love for bows, hairbands and polka dots started at a young age (thanks Mum!)

Look at those lashes! Where did they go? Sigh...
I'm the first to admit I have a little obsession with old photos...I love seeing what people used to look like and comparing it to present day!
How about you?

For Christmas Day I wore my H&M polka dot dress which I featured a few posts ago, pictured above with the headband my brother bought me, which matches the rosette on my dress perfectly! I have to admit I was a bit gutted when I picked this up to see it was a size 16, but the label inside says it's a European size 42 which is normally a 14, so I calmed myself somewhat (but still vowed to start a new exercise regime!). I love the shape of this dress and wanted to take some photos of it in the snow but it was about -6 and far too cold to stand out there without a coat! I managed to withstand the chill for about 5 seconds, in which Naty took this photo of my other sister Minnie (mental in just a cardie) and I which kind of show how the skirt flares out, very 50s-style!

[coat - Next, scarf - random stall in Monaco - dress and socks - H&M, shoes - New Look]

It's Christmaaaaaaas!

Continuing the polka dot theme, Santa left me some adorable polka dot socks in my stocking, so I teamed them with my brogues to keep my feet warm. I explained my polka dots by telling everyone they reminded me of snowflakes...which we had more than enough of on Christmas Eve, making the roads here extremely dangerous and we couldn't spend Christmas with my aunt and cousins! Sad times!

Make-up-wise I stuck to my classic winged liner look with a red lip - which I shall be posting more on later! How do you usually style yourself for Christmas? We always dress up a little bit, mostly because we've usually received some pretty presents that need wearing!

Thank you all so much for reading my blog over the last few months! I adore each and every one of my readers and wish you all Happy Holidays and a fab 2011!

xoxo
January...and my dream headband collection in Harrods.

February...and a dreamy winter wonderland in France.

March...and Stephie with red hair and hats.

April...and a (very cold) day at the beach in Broadstairs.

May...and the long-awaited burning of Moby-Dick.

June...and Summer Ball with my very dapper boyfriend.

July...and rainbow cupcakes, commemorating the birth of this blog!

August...and the really-awful-hair/make-up as a film extra...

And a sad face whilst missing Jon!

I know these are doing the blogging rounds at the moment, but I really enjoyed looking back through my photo albums for images to sum up each month (and yes, I also enjoyed messing around on Photoshop whilst editing them!). It's been a big year for me, which part two will definitely reflect (ahem, engagement, anyone?) and I found far too many photos, which is why this is in two parts! Speaking of photography, I've noticed how blogging has made me far more aware of things that could be photographed and I'm far more voracious in my photography now than I used to be (prior to blogging, my camera came out for special occasions only...now I either have my camera in my bag or my iphone at the ready to snap pictures!) and whilst I'm not the best photographer I'm making an effort to improve myself.

How has blogging affected you? And do you like looking back at photos to remind yourself of the things you've done this year? I certainly do!

xoxo

Apologies for my absence recently, I've just got home for the holidays and have been spending time with family and friends and the like. I do have a few ideas for some posts though, and I might do a post on my favourite products of 2010 as they seem to be pretty popular! Outfit-wise I've been dressing for comfort rather than style so haven't really deemed any outfits worthy of being featured on my blog yet, and I've been trying to cut down on make-up to try and clear up my skin so again I kind of feel it's pointless to photograph my face for a make-up blog! I shall try to blog tomorrow, but if I lack the time then I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and thank you so much for reading my little rambles!

I leave you with a picture of our (very squat) Christmas tree with all the presents underneath...I can't wait!

xoxo

Over the last couple of days I've acquired a few things that have made me smile a LOT so I wanted to share them with you! It's that time of year again where people are going home for Christmas so I've received a few Christmas presents already and I absolutely love all of them so far!Admittedly the dress above is a present I, erm, bought for myself...I've loved it for so long, every time I went into H&M I'd go and stroke it (how sad am I?) and today I wandered in there and it was ON SALE. So I bought it. It's amazing. The end! (No, not really)
I've also received two gorgeous necklaces, one of which I've already shown on here but it has HORSES on it so I thought I'd show it again (I love horses, what can I say?) and one which I've lusted after for ages (thank you Geo!) because it's just perfection in a necklace.

 See? Perfection.

If you've read my blog before you may have noticed that I'm a MASSIVE Harry Potter fan...and if you are too then get thyself to Waterstones NOW because this most excellent book is £18 reduced from £25! It's fab for just flicking through as it has all kinds of details about the films as well as reproductions of items from the series such as...

THIS.
Love.
I got this idea from this blog and I thought it'd be a good one to post while taking a break in the midst of my essay and Christmas madness going on right now! Basically the idea is to post 3 things you don't like about yourself and follow it up with 3 things you do like. I can see this will require some thought!

I don't like
*My skin is uneven, super-sensitive, spotty and just generally disgusting. No foundation makes me feel like I have great skin and I have tried so damn many, it's untrue. I also react to most cleansers and moisturisers, sad times indeed!
*My tummy sticks out too much, doesn't matter how many sit-ups I do and it's also super-sensitive as just about anything will cause it to bloat...I look like I'm permanently pregnant. Oh joy!
*My under-eye circles...Nothing, not even Touche Eclat, can disguise these babies. They delight in making me look ill and exhausted all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. Yuk.

I like

*My lips, I think they're quite a nice shape and they're quite pigmented as well, so I play them up by using all manner of lip tints or lipsticks (wearing a Max Factor tint in the photo above!)
*My hair is by no means perfect and it's still quite short but I like the way it goes quite straight on top and curls at the bottom. Now if only it would grow faster!
*My height...yes okay this sounds a bit weird, but I think I'm a good height (5'4") and I quite like feeling little next to my 6'2" fiance! It's about the only time I feel dainty *haw haw*

I tag anyone who has things they hate about themselves, as doing this has made me realise how much I appreciate other things about myself as well!
xoxo

Last year I went through a bit of a Blair Waldorf phase - well, I'm actually still in it -  where I went out and bought heaps of brightly-coloured tights and headbands, inspired by Gossip Girl. Despite this I hadn't tried them with my favourite skirt, so it was about time I gave that combo a whirl!

I'm like a walking advert for H&M here, the top, skirt and cardie are all from there! I was absolutely freezing, hence the hat, and as soon as Jon had taken the photo I put my coat on. I wasn't even going to put the cardie on till I'd stepped outside and realised how cold it was, so grabbed this out my wardrobe and threw in on over the top. Polka dots ahoy!

I love these shoes so much, they're New Look and my housemate gave them to me as they were too small for her. I love how they look with the red tights!

I also added a hairbow from Peacocks but it kept falling out, much to my annoyance, but our weekly Starbucks picture shows it when it was still clinging onto my hair...

Anyway, I feel this outfit accurately portrays my usual style - polka dots, bows, and a whole lotta tights! 3 pairs in this particular outfit kept my legs toasty and warm.
What three things would sum up your daily style?
xoxo
