Dani Dunne - UK lifestyle blog
Hello my lovelies!

I'm sure I've mentioned once, twice, thousands of times that my hair is unmanageable. It's curly, it's frizzy, gets greasy quickly and there is a LOT of it. It requires some serious hard work to keep it looking halfway decent and most days I just rough-dry it and tie it up because it simply will not do what it's told. It has been known to be perfectly GHD straight one minute and kinky and puffy the next.
Brazilian blow-dries are tempting, sure, but also on the pricier side of things. Knowing my hair, there's also always the danger that it will simply disobey any treatment so I don't ever want to spend a lot of money on it. I don't want it poker straight all the time but I would like it to be less...bushy and less frizzy!

Enter Charles Worthington Salon At Home Straight and Smooth treatment (phew). This retails for £19.99 and I believe you get 500 Advantage Card points at the moment if you buy it at Boots! It promises to work wonders in a relatively short space of time and seemed ideal to try out on a quiet evening in, so Monday night I set myself the task of applying it.

For review purposes, here is my hair BEFORE:
(Nice greasy-faced photo of me with Sorcha at the Motel event, taken by Stephie.)

First, you do a patch test. Not surprising really since it's basically the same as colouring your hair. The instructions are very specific on this and can't really be faulted for health and safety. Once you've survived the patch test, you basically wash your hair, NO conditioner (how my hair tangled!) and then apply the first step of the treatment using the gloves provided (note: they are rubbish, be warned).
So far, so simple. My only gripe is that the instruction manual doesn't really go into detail on how to apply it, just reminds you to keep combing it, so I basically squeezed some into my hands and rubbed it in like you would a hair colour. Oh yes, and the smell is horrific and you will make the house smell like rotten eggs.
Next, after waiting the appropriate length of time, you wash it out and apply the deep conditioner to "lock in" the treatment. This didn't have any offensive attributes and I left it on a bit longer because I was texting my sister and my head didn't catch fire so that was alright.

After rinsing, you're meant to blow-dry your hair with a round brush and then use straighteners to complete the look.It being a Monday night and me being exceptionally bad at blow-drying my hair, I dried it rather roughly to maintain some volume because - and here is the bit I dislike the most - you cannot wash your hair for 48 hours post treatment. As my hair goes flat and greasy super quickly, I was desperate for all the volume I could get. However, despite not blow-drying it, and despite not using the straighteners till the following morning...my hair was straight.

Never, ever, has my hair looked like this after rough-drying. It usually resembles Mufasa's mane, but not this time! Behold:

(please excuse the terrible photos, it was dark, I had no make-up on and wanted to show off the hair, not hiding my face or anything...)

It was incredible. However, as it was about half ten I had nowhere to go to show off my new sleek do, so instead used a headband made of old tights to keep my fringe off my oily face and went to bed, anxiously awaiting the next morning's results...

NEXT: PART 2, in which my hair battles the treatment with all it's might (aided by some gale-force winds and rain on the walk home)

(No, I still haven't found my camera charger. Could you tell??)
Hello my lovelies!
I've misplaced the charger for my camera so once again I must subject you to some dodgy Hipstomatic pics taken on my phone.(Note: picture-heavy post!) This week I've mostly been wearing my new ASOS skirt (inspired by Maria) with a variety of cosy jumpers. I got Jon to photograph two outfits, although the lighting is absymal in the first one and you can't really see much detail so I added a quick self-shot!

Both jumpers are by H&M and the coat is last season Next, if anyone is interested!

I've also been mooching around Brentwood and Covent Garden taking photos of Christmas decorations because they just make me so happy! On Saturday Brentwood High Street was buzzing with people and stalls selling all kinds of goodies. I snapped a walking Christmas tree and some sweets because I cannot resist anything colourful and cute!

Today I had a fab day out in London with my besties Stephie and Geo where we watched The Lion King musical (amaaaaazing!!! Such a beautiful show!) and wandered around Covent Garden and Somerset House where the atmosphere was so festive and fun. We will definitely be heading back there for some ice skating!

What have you been up to this week? Are you feeling Christmassy yet?

Hello lovelies!

I haven't done one of these in a while, I know, but I would like to introduce my other sister Minnie to you...Find her at

Minerella

She's new to blogging but has an impressive five posts so far, ranging from make-up to cooking, reviews and more! She has a fab camera and a gift for writing too so I would recommend her blog even if we weren't related!

Hello my lovelies!

Blogger events seem to me to be a bit like buses - I'd never dreamed I'd get invited to any and suddenly along come two within days of each other! On Thursday I went to the Motel showroom on Great Portland Street where Motel were showcasing their Christmas collection accompanied by Glossybox.

It was fabulous, the perfect evening out after work, with cupcakes, candy floss (we all indulged, as you can see above!), popcorn and even cocktails! I met up with Stephie and Sophie and spent the evening wandering around recognising people and telling them how much I love their blogs (Selina, Rachel and Charlotte among them, I'm a shameless fangirl!), had a long and rambling chat with the wonderful Sarah and also met the lovely Sorcha who has a fabulous job with Disney (my dream!) and even more fabulous hair! I love getting to make new friends and meet people I've been following for a long time and I hope to meet them all again soon!

The icing on top of the cake was that after getting to see the new collection we got to choose an item of our very own from the range. The choice was so difficult but I managed to step outside my fit-and-flare comfort zone to pick the gorgeous and VERY body con sequin dress in the picture above. I'll probably be too nervous to wear it out and will have to throw a skirt over the top to hide any flabby bits, but provided I find a girdle or some other such tummy-flattening device, I think this will look lovely with cranberry tights and matching lippy!
The rest of the collection was equally lovely, with gorgeous turquoise items as well as some beautiful lace dresses (Stephie picked one of these). I would say most people would find something to their liking from the range and the pricing is quite reasonable and on a par with Dorothy Perkins et al. When I receive the dress I will be sure to post about it! I chose an L to be on the safe side as I'm not at all familiar with Motel's sizing, so hopefully that should be fine...

As if all this weren't enough, Glossybox were running a competition where you received a box simply for entering! I've been toying with the idea of subscribing for a while now after seeing heaps of posts on them every month so this is a very good way for people who are unsure to make up their minds. I will let you know what my thoughts are when I receive it!

All in all it was a lovely evening and I feel very privileged to have been invited! Many thanks to Selina and her team and thank you to Motel and Glossybox for their generosity!

Hello my lovelies!

I managed to take some quick snaps this morning, despite not being able to wash my hair properly due to the boiler packing up whilst I was in the shower (not fun). I suppose this is not just an outfit...it's an M&S outfit (kind of!). I do love M&S, their food is fabulous and their clothes are just such great quality. They may not be the most hip shop on the high street but I always manage to find something I will covet in there! Admittedly I'm biased as my nana used to work there and so I've grown up with M&S being a large presence in my life.

This top was something my nana bought me over the summer and it's just so pretty. I love the fluffy flower detailing with the teeny polka dots (of course!) and it tucks nicely into high-waisted skirts and jeans. Speaking of skirts...

...I picked up this spotty pleated number in H&M on Saturday. It's the perfect length for work and doesn't make me look like a house elf with stubby legs! I'm looking forward to wearing this with cosy jumpers tucked in and brogues for a more interesting work look.

Finally, my first Christmas present of the year is an early one, from my nana, from M&S! Surprise! I love their selection of hats, I can often be found in any shop trying on multiple hats and this one is so pretty and makes me feel far more glamorous than I do when I'm using a simple umbrella to keep my hair dry. The detail is subtle yet elegant, and I'm so happy with it! It was the only small size in the store so my nana stole it off the mannequin, haha! I'm so lucky to have such a lovely, daring nana (she also once dyed her hair pink but that's another story...) so I'd like to dedicate this post to her awesomeness :)

What do you think about hats? It is my firm belief that more people should invest in nice hats, there are so many lovely styles out there nowadays!

Hello my lovelies!

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to go to the fabulous Aussie-versary party in Soho with Stephie, hosted by the amazing Aussie Hair Care girls! It was the first time I'd ever been able to attend a blogger event and it did not disappoint, with free drinks, awesome stylists, wonderful nibbles served by topless "lifeguards" (erm, male, of course!) and lovely guests! I finally got to meet some of the bloggers I've been following for a while and admittedly I was a bit starstruck and embarrassed, but it was so much fun!

( all but the top two photos from the Aussie photographer's Flickr page)

Here you can see how we started the evening with poker straight hair and ended it with lovely curls, mine courtesy of the lovely Amber Rose; unceremoniously diving into the massive trunk of goodies (I picked up Miracle Moist shampoo and 3 Minute Miracle, Take the Heat cream and a lovely leave-in conditioner spray!); dancing to cheesy music; making new friends and playing with lovely sparklers!

I'm so grateful to Aussie for allowing me to attend and loved meeting the gorgeous Sophie, Nora, Laura and Charlotte too!

xoxo
