Featuring this time on the Foundation Files, it is...Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum!
Here it is standing next to the original Healthy Mix foundation, which I adore. It may look bigger but it actually contains the same amount - 30ml - so you're not actually getting more for your money, as I so foolishly thought!
It's marketed as a 'gel foundation' so I expected it to have a slightly different texture to the original HM, but it feels pretty much the same...it may be a bit lighter though as I have noticed it dries faster. Like Healthy Mix, it leaves you with a reasonable glowy, semi-matte finish.
Swatches:
Top to bottom: Healthy Mix Serum; Healthy Mix (both in shade 53)
Now obviously both of these look too dark against my wrist but that's to be expected. I found Healthy Mix Serum slightly darker than the original despite being the exact same shade. It also dries faster and slightly more matte than the original, and the pump is easier to use. I find the original Healthy Mix one to be a bit tricky sometimes (might just be my bottle?) and dispenses either too much or too little product, whereas I had more control over Healthy Mix Serum, as you can tell by the amount used for the swatches!
Coverage-wise, I have to say the original Healthy Mix is better. Healthy Mix Serum is marketed as being an anti-fatigue foundation for an even complexion and it certainly does the trick, but it doesn't cover blemishes and spots as well as the original product. The bottle does say it's a light coverage foundation, so I'd be more likely to reach for this on a day when I don't require a lot of coverage (which is, er, pretty rare...) but it smells just as lovely as the original and doesn't cause me to break out, so I believe it would be alright for sensitive skin! It is possible to layer it though for a heavier coverage if you need it.
Like the original Healthy Mix, I find I need a light dusting of powder to keep this in place and to stop it from going too shiny on my combination skin, so there's something to keep in mind!
Overall, I have to say that I quite like this foundation as it really isn't too different from the original formula. It does beg the question though as to why they had to create a new foundation, when it's so similar, but I won't complain! The only differences for me really are the lighter coverage and the fact that the shade is slightly darker than its original counterpart; otherwise I am quite happy with this foundation and feel it deserves a 7/10!
I'm not sure if this is available in the UK yet as I've not been at uni since December so I haven't been able to check; however, upon research (ahem...Google) I found a few blogs saying it was due out in Europe (so the UK!) and Asia in January. Anyone know if this is true?
At any rate, I got it for 12.98 euro which is the average price for a Bourjois foundation in Luxembourg (unless of course, you shop in Sephora, in which case you're a fool for buying ordinary make-up there because they overcharge you! Look at the pretty high-end make-up instead...)
xoxo
