I've been doing film extra work on and off for the last five years, starting with a whole summer spent dressed in sackcloth for a film called Crusade in Jeans, followed by a few modern productions and an Eighties film (my hair was super-flicky!) and now I'm doing a film set in the 1880s. Excited much? Great, I thought, I get to wear a proper costume! Something like in Pride and Prejudice or The Young Victoria! Something like this:Or this:Instead, I've ended up in something more like this:I look like a bishop! Even worse, I have to wear a gold scarf randomly tied around my head. Add a bushy black beard and I could be a street merchant right out of Aladdin! It is just utterly shapeless and far too big for me, and nothing at all like the dresses my delusions of grandeur led me to believe I'd be wearing...sob...I shall just have to grin and bear it, I suppose! Oh, the things I do for money...
Do you have any fashion 'disasters' such as this?

You have been an extra in films? Ooh, that's so cool! That costume sucks though, it's never what you expect, is it?
ReplyDeleteYes, mostly films no one's ever heard of though, they're usually Dutch or Austrian/German productions! They're usually a lot of fun too but so not looking forward to wearing this costume...
